Confucius Institute in Edmonton and Edmonton Beijing Opera Association presented Beijing Opera Gala East Meets West 2014 at Myer Horowitz Theatre on February 22nd. Through this classical Chinese performing arts, organizers hope to promote Beijing opera as well as Chinese culture and language to the general public. One of the plays “The Monkey King Gets His Staff” was performed by a troupe of English artists from Jingju Canada who are passionate of Beijing opera. Their play is delivered in English, so it is indeed an art of fusion between Eastern and Western cultures.
